Approximately 16 people have been injured this afternoon when a taxi and bus collided on the R36, roughly 20km outside of Tzaneen in Limpopo.
ER24 paramedics, along with various other services, arrived on the scene and found the bus in the left lane of the road. A taxi was found lying on its side at the bottom of an embankment.
Paramedics immediately began triaging the patients found on the scene. 16 passengers from the taxi were assessed and found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries.
The patients were treated for their injuries and thereafter transported to various hospitals in the area for further treatment.
It is believed that a number of the passengers from the bus had been transported privately, prior to the arrival of emergency services.
It is understood that the driver of the taxi lost control, causing his vehicle to swerve into oncoming traffic and collide head-on with the bus. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
