It is believed there had been several attempts on Wayne McKenna’s life, including two attempts inside churches on the Cape Flats. McKenna, 40, was sitting with Jawie Isaacs, 23, drinking outside a house in Fairdale Street, Connaught Estate, Ravensmead, on Sunday just after 4.30pm when gunmen fired shots out of a silver Astra.
Both men were shot in the head after a total of about “12 rounds” were fired.
They lay close to each other near the vibacrete wall, blood running out of their lifeless bodies as shocked community members looked on.
Sources, who were close to McKenna, say they believe the hit was the work of his own men, members of the 26 prison gang.
Sources close to McKenna says he was a dik ding: “They were 26 gang members. Wayne McKenna was similar to Colin Stanfield, Ralph Stanfield and Ernie ‘Lastig’ Solomons. The two suspects are known to us, they are also 26 gangsters. They are youngsters.”
