Six suspects were arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa during the early parts of this morning after they attempted to rob a business in Everest Heights – Verulam (pictured).
At approximately 01:10 Reaction Officers were dispatched to the business after receiving a call from a member of public reporting three suspects holding up a RUSA Security Officer. Upon arrival Officers found three suspects jumping out of the premises. A foot chased ensued resulting in all three suspects being arrested.
While being interviewed the suspects admitted that they intended on breaking into the business and stealing alcohol and cigarettes. It was also established that three other suspects were parked in 4 ton truck in the area awaiting instructions to uplift the stolen goods.
Reaction Officers instructed one of the suspects to call their accomplices and inform them that they were in possession of the stolen items. The Toyota Dyna truck arrived at the business and a further three suspects were apprehended.
It was confirmed that one of the suspects was an employee of the business. The suspects attempted to bribe Reaction Officers with a large sum of money in return for their freedom however they were placed under arrest and handed over to authorities for further investigation.
The suspects sustained injury during the arrest while attempting to flee.
