Louisville’s police department has posted graphic body camera video from the fatal shooting of an African-American man by police officers.
Police say they received a call reporting a domestic disturbance at an apartment in the 4900 block of Broadleaf Drive early Monday morning.
The woman who called 911 said her boyfriend had kicked in the door and was armed with a knife.
The video captures two officers – identified as Taylor Banks and Beau Gadegaard- arriving at the scene and ordering the man to ‘drop it’.
The cops had been out of their car less than 10 seconds before opening fire.
Despite shooting eight times, the officers in the video do not render aid to Thomas.
They did however handcuff the suspect.
Chief Steve Conrad said Monday the video raises questions. He said authorities would investigate the incident.
‘While our officers are trained to provide aid in most situations, as I stated earlier, every situation is unique and it is only through that thorough investigation that we will be able to understand and fully determine whether or not these officers provided the appropriate level of aid in that situation,’ he said.
‘They asked EMS to step up their response at one point because the suspect was no longer breathing or alert,’ Conrad said.
