Johannesburg – The South African Post Office has urged Gauteng motorists to ensure their car licences are up to date before they go on holiday to other parts of the country this festive season.
Spokesman Johan Kruger said: “Many car owners are not aware that their car licence has expired and then end up collecting traffic fines while travelling to their holiday destinations.”
A motor licence renewal has to be done in the province where the vehicle was registered.
Geert Bataille, head of the Post Office’s Retail division, said motorists should remember to bring along their latest proof of residence and identity document when they want to renew their car licence at a Post Office branch, as this is a legal requirement.
Motorists who collect a traffic fine while on holiday can now pay the fine when they return to Gauteng at any Post Office countrywide.
