OFF-DUTY COP SHOOTS ROBBER DEAD

The off-duty officer identified himself and fired to try to inhibit the action of the criminal, but the suspect retaliated.

A military police officer responded to a robbery and killed a criminal in a snack bar in Lorena (SP) late on Wednesday (23).

According to the Civil Police, police were with the family in the establishment, when an armed man entered unannounced. The off-duty officer identified himself and fired to try to stop the threat, but the suspect retaliated.

There was an exchange of shots between the officer and criminal and, after being shot, the robber tried to escape, but did not succeed. The man died on the scene. No civilians were injured during the altercation, although two children were left in the middle of the shooting.

The young man was 19 years old and was suspected of having robbed the same diner a fortnight ago. He was recognized by the owner of the shop. The military police officer presented himself to the Civil Police, who will investigate the case.
