A man, believed to be in his 20s, died when he crashed his car into a light pole on the R40 in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.

As a result of the impact, the car ended up wrapped around the light pole in the centre medium.

ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, on Tuesday said paramedics found the badly injured driver lying on the tarmac a few metres away from the wreck.

Paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene to find a light motor vehicle lying in half in the centre medium. The body of the man was found lying in the road meters away.


“The man was immediately treated for his injuries and provided with advanced life support interventions,” said Meiring.

The injured driver was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Police are investigating the cause of the fatal crash which happened on Monday afternoon.
