CAPE TOWN – The Western Cape Community Safety Department has offered a reward for any information which will lead to the arrests of suspects following a spate of police murders.

Over the past week, three South African Police Service (SAPS) members have been gunned down. Last week, a police officer was killed during an ambush in Philippi East. Her colleague was wounded in the shooting, but the sergeant survived by playing dead. While Cape Town police have arrested one suspect, two more suspects are on the run.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, two constables were murdered in Kraaifontein and Delft. It’s understood police are looking for at least six suspects involved in these killings.

Western Cape Community Safety MEC Dan Plato on Sunday announced his department is offering R100,000 to anyone with information that will lead to successful convictions.

Plato’s spokesperson Ewald Botha says: “It’s a clear warning to those that are thinking about committing such a heinous crime. Now there’s R100,000 reason why you’ll get caught, with more eyes looking and people that might come forward.”Meanwhile, Plato has sent his condolences to the families of the slain police officers.(Edited by Shimoney Regter)
