ROBBER DROWNS WHILE TRYING TO FLEE MOB IN DURBAN

The body of the suspected robber was been pulled from the Umlazi river in Lamontville, south of Durban.

Police have opened an inquest docket after an alleged robber drowned in the Umlazi River in KwaZulu-Natal after trying to flee a mob.

It is alleged the man was part of a trio that was being chased by a mob after stabbing and robbing a community member.

The other two suspects managed to escape the mob but the 21-year-old man ran to the river where he drowned.

The police’s Nqobile Gwala says, “It’s alleged that the deceased and the two other suspects robbed the victim of a cellphone and wallet that contained cash.

“Police have opened an inquest docket for investigation. The stabbed victim was taken to hospital for medical care.”
