Police have opened an inquest docket after an alleged robber drowned in the Umlazi River in KwaZulu-Natal after trying to flee a mob.
It is alleged the man was part of a trio that was being chased by a mob after stabbing and robbing a community member.
The other two suspects managed to escape the mob but the 21-year-old man ran to the river where he drowned.
The police’s Nqobile Gwala says, “It’s alleged that the deceased and the two other suspects robbed the victim of a cellphone and wallet that contained cash.
“Police have opened an inquest docket for investigation. The stabbed victim was taken to hospital for medical care.”
