A KwaZulu-Natal man who had his friend’s 11-year-old boy in a vehicle was apparently killed by community members on Tuesday because the angry crowd thought he had kidnapped the boy.

COL. Police spokesperson Thembeka Mbhele said a father, his son and father’s friend stopped in a street in Kwazulu-Natal around 17:00. The father climbed out to buy food for his son and the friend waited with the boy in the vehicle.

“The man returned after a while and saw his vehicle reversed and a crowd was working on his friend. The community presumably thought the friend had kidnapped the child, “Mbhele said.

“His friend sustained serious injuries and was declared dead at the scene. Another unknown man who tried to help him was also dead. ”

Major-General. Bheki Langa, acting police commissioner in KwaZulu-Natal, strongly condemned the incident. “We are calling on the community to work with the police and report possible crimes rather than taking the right in their own hands,” said Langa.

Mbhele said the police were still trying to find the next of kin of the unknown man. “The black man was about 40 years old. He was wearing blue jeans and a gray T-shirt. People with more information are requested to. Mwandla at 078 700 6659 or call the Stop Crime Number, 0860 010 111. ”
